JES FARM TO SCHOOL

New to JES Farm to School

  • Our new Chef Nancy Boss is looking to expand our menu options to include more homemade options and locally sourced ingredients.
  • We have a HOOP HOUSE for more growing space.
  • INDOOR GROW STATIONS for year round greens.

What have we accomplished so far?

  • We put in a GARDEN that is used as an outdoor education classroom and food is harvested for our cafeteria.
  • CLASSROOMS GROW VEGETABLES all year with grow lights.
  • Students make PESTO from our basil for pesto pizza in our cafe.
  • TASTE TESTS are done regularly.
  • We create FOOD EDUCATION/ COOKING SHOWS 5 times a year.
  • We have a VEGGIE BAR in our cafe.
  • We switched to 100% pure MAPLE SYRUP.
  • We focus on LOCAL FOODS in our cafe.
  • We created a MOBILE COOKING CART that goes into many classrooms for hands on cooking experiences.

What are we hoping to accomplish in the future?

  • GARDEN EXPANSION making more room to grow fresh produce.
  • PLANT FRUIT BUSHES so can harvest fruits AND vegetables for a balanced diet.
  • Offer even MORE LOCAL FOODS
  • EXPAND THE MENU using suggestions provided by the students.
  • SPRING GARDEN FESTIVAL to include live music, food trucks, raffle prizes and family activities.
  • FIELD TRIPS TO LOCAL FARMS
